Not All Returned Cartridges are Reused

Some companies or individuals go on the extra mile to return empty ink and toner cartridges to manufacturers like HP, Lexmark and others so that these manufacturers can recycle and reuse the empty cartridge.

However, not all returned cartridges are being reused especially in original makers manufacturing plants. Only about 20% of empty cartridges are recovered and independent or third-party remanufacturers tend to recover more empty cartridges than all of the original manufacturers combined.

Some original printer toner makers like HP and Canon take in used toner cartridges. They grind these cartridges into polymeric powders that are then formed into pellets. These pellets will be used in producing low-grade plastic products like CD cases and cups.

I have noticed how some companies would return their used cartridges back to the original manufacturers and then order new branded cartridges again. Do you think this is helpful to the environment or not? For me, it’s just like a cycle in which you recycle what you use or purchase. It would have been better if companies would return empty cartridges and then order compatible or remanufactured cartridges instead of new ones. This is more environment-friendly since you will not require companies to produce new or virgin cartridges. Plus, your company gets to save more money since remanufactured toner cartridges cost less than new or branded cartridges.

There is hardly any difference on the print quality between new cartridges and remanufactured toner cartridges. In fact, government, major companies and independent testing laboratories certify that remanufactured toner cartridges can perform as well as even better than new cartridges (provided that the remanufactured cartridges are produced properly).

If you want, you can just try out one or two remanufactured toner cartridge first and see for yourself if there’s any difference between using it and using new cartridges. Contact Toner for Earth for your remanufactured toner cartridge needs.
